Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, and Critical Peak
Off-peak means lower-cost hours, super off-peak means the plan's lowest regular price, and critical peak means unusually expensive event hours called by the utility.
Off-peak
Off-peak is a relative label. Its actual price and hours vary by plan, season, and day type. It may cover nights, weekends, or broad daytime periods outside the system peak.
Super off-peak
Plans with three or more price levels may add super off-peak hours. These are often overnight for EV plans or around midday where solar generation is abundant. The lowest label does not guarantee the lowest total bill if the plan adds fixed or demand charges.
Critical peak
Critical peak pricing applies on a limited number of event days, often during extreme heat or grid stress. The utility normally gives advance notice. Event prices can be far above regular peak prices, so automation and alerts matter.
Read the definitions, not the colors
Tariff charts use different colors and names. Compare the written hours and prices directly. Holidays may follow weekend rules, and start or end times can change by season.
